JOB SUMMARY FOR PRINCIPAL ENGINEER We are seeking a highly skilled
and experienced Principal Engineer specializing in process, piping,
and/or mechanical engineering within the energy or aerospace
industry, as our clients primarily operate in upstream oil and gas
production, natural gas storage and transmission, power generation,
and spacecraft manufacturing and launch. This role entails leading
and managing multi-disciplinary design projects with extensive
knowledge of the design, construction, and operation of piping
facilities, including applicable industry codes and best practices.
They will be responsible for mentoring and managing work activities
of less experienced engineers. The position requires interfacing
with clients to coordinate project designs and confirm the project
meets quality standards, maintains efficiency, and achieves client
satisfaction.
JOB DUTIES FOR PRINCIPAL ENGINEER Project Management and Business
Development:
- Manage projects, including proposals, scheduling, budgeting,
and overall client satisfaction.
- Scope and coordinate development of conceptual designs for
facility upgrades based on requirements.
- Prepare plans, specifications, calculations, and cost estimates
for the construction or modification of various piping
facilitiesTechnical Leadership:
- Manage technical resources and supervise project teams to
ensure work aligns with design practices, industry codes, and
standards.
- Oversee design and selection of complex equipment applications
including oil & gas production, high-pressure gas re-injection,
water flood systems, and more.Quality Assurance:
- Implement company project documentation and QA/QC
practices.
- Verify that designs consider realistic operating assumptions
and low lifecycle costs.
- Supervise the development of block diagrams, process flow
diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs),
piping plans, data sheets, technical trade studies, and detailed
equipment specifications including pre-commissioning and testing
procedures.
- Assess vendor qualifications and quality programs, considering
equipment standardization and redundancy strategies.
- Facilitate and participate in design reviews, 3D model reviews,
risk assessments, PHA HAZOPs, and vendor bid evaluations.
- Oversee the development of procedures for installation,
commissioning, operation, and maintenance of process facilities.
Mentorship:
- Encourage company standards, work procedures, and best
practices.
- Act as a technical resource, directing and mentoring project
and design engineers on technical matters and procedures.Fieldwork
Coordination:
- Conduct necessary fieldwork including walk-downs of current
systems, collect as-built data, and measure dimensions for new
designs.Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering, petroleum
engineering, or chemical engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years' experience related to process engineering
in the chemical, petrochemical, petroleum production, or refining
industries, or in spacecraft manufacturing and launch
facilities.
- Minimum of 5 years of senior-level project experience on major
upstream projects in the oil and gas industry.
- Professional Engineer license in associated field is
preferred.
- Experience managing projects from scoping through construction
administration and closeout.
- Ability to lead multiple projects concurrently.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and process simulation tools, including
HYSYS, PROCESS, or CHEMCAD.
- Familiarity with the AVEVA platform is preferred.
- Proficiency with applicable industry standard design codes
(ASME, ANSI, API, etc.).
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, rotating equipment,
and piping specifications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and
effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and
clients.
- Demonstrate leadership abilities mentoring and developing
engineering talent.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make informed
decisions under pressure.
- Work primarily in-office with regular visits to project
sites.
- Exposure to various working conditions, including construction
sites and operational facilities, requiring adherence to safety
protocols.
